Was hoping someone could clarify for me, as I am learning on my own from a textbook.
Im memorizing the case endings for nouns in first and second declension, but I am curious, since the accusitive and nominative case share certain endings such as "ov" and "a", how do I identify which is which in a sentence? Do I rely on context clues? I gather so far that word order does not strictly matter.
Thanks in advance.
I always use context when reading. If I see a preposition, that's always a dead give away. Like δια τουτο. That pronoun could be Nom. or Acc. But δια takes the genitive or accusative. That's definitely accusative and so "for this reason" or "so then" or a similar gloss. Hope that's helpful at some level.
